Just how much potential financial harm can a person driving a motor vehicle be exposed to in Australia?
Whilst we think in terms of thousands of dollars (or even tens of thousands of dollars) our insurance company thinks quite differently. They (Insuret Pty Ltd) have a maximum liability for any one claim of $40 million. Whilst we can’t conceive a motor vehicle incident causing so much property damage, our insurer certainly believes that it could occur, because that’s how much protection their re-insurers give them.

Insurance Protection Packages
ULTIMATE PROTECTION
Full Cover ZERO Excess with Extras
Our ZERO Excess option with Glass, Lights, Wheels, Tyres & Lower Body Damage, and blameless roadside assistance. Complete peace of mind.
Formerly known as “Super MaxiSafe Plus”, this is our Flagship Protection Package, with full comprehensive motor vehicle insurance cover with automatic inclusion of both of the “opt-in” packages within our lesser packages. This package has the widest scope of cover and the lowest price of any rental car Protection Package in Australia (and quite possibly, in the world). It is probably the only ZERO Excess package that is truly “ZERO”!
MAXISAFE
Full Cover ZERO Excess
Our "budget" Zero Excess option.
This is the lowest priced “Zero” Excess Reduction package in Australia including “Glass, Lights, Wheels, Tyres & Lower Body Damage”. Our “Premium Roadside Assistance” can be included as an “opt-in”. However you should be aware that our Flagship package automatically includes both of those packages for about $10 more for a full 7 day rental.
SAVER COVER
Limited Cover Lower Excess
Our LOW RISK LOW COST option.
This is our “low excess” Protection Package with an excess which varies according to vehicle type and driver age, but is within a range of 70%-90% reduction from the BASIC EXCESS. Again “Glass, Lights, Wheels, Tyres & Lower Body Damage” can be included as an “opt-in” as is the case with Premium Roadside Assistance (which covers the fees associated with “driver error” emergency service). Selection of this option without adding Glass, Lights, Wheels, Tyres & Lower Body Damage changes the Excess to $2,585.
BASIC EXCESS
Limited Cover High Excess
Our free undertaking to protect you against calamitous claims.
This is NOT an “Excess Reduction” package, but rather an “Excess Establishment” package. This distinction can be important if you are relying on a Rental Car Excess Cover provided by your credit card or through a travel insurance policy, because some of the issuers require you to purchase one of the options provided by the rental car company. Selection of this option without adding Glass, Lights, Wheels, Tyres & Lower Body Damage changes the "Zero" Excess to $5,500.
Additional age excesses apply for 19-20yr drivers; 21-24yr drivers and 80-89yr drivers (see table below).
Our online quotes will inform you of the cost of each of the three choices available to you. Drivers 19-20 years and over 80 years cannot get online quotes, they must contact us by phone during our office hours or use our contacts page to request us to call them back.
Our fleet is insured under insurance policy number FLE23028985A issued by Insuret Pty Ltd ABN 42 126 793 379, being the Rental Car Insurance specialist representative of the underwriter; The Hollard Insurance Company Pty Ltd ABN 78 090 584 473.
Our customers are afforded the protection that our fleet policy provides, up to a limit of $40million for any one claim, subject to the conditions contained in the insurance policy and compliance at all times with both the insurance policy requirements and with our Terms and Conditions of Rental.
Insurance Cover Inclusions
All Packages
All of our Insurance Cover Packages include:
- Damage caused to or loss of the Rental Vehicle and damage caused by the Rental Vehicle during the rental term (unless such damage or loss is excluded under our Terms and Conditions of Rental or under conventional Australian Motor Vehicle Comprehensive cover.)
- Costs incidental to losses or costs mentioned above, including towing, recovery costs, assessing costs and claims administration fees
- Demurrage - our lost rental income when our car is being repaired and third party temporary vehicle replacement if you are in the wrong
- Limit of cover up to $40 million for any one incident
- 24 hour "best endeavours" Roadside Assistance in the event of mechanical breakdown of our Rental Vehicle (this facility may be provided by our own staff or by contracted agencies)
- Reimbursement of reasonable Taxi or Uber costs to get back to your accommodation, or
- Up to $200 necessary emergency accommodation due to vehicle mechanical failure
MAXISAFE & ULTIMATE PROTECTION
MAXISAFE and ULTIMATE PROTECTION provide ZERO Excess cover for Glass, Wheels, Tyres and Lower Body Panel Damage.
ULTIMATE PROTECTION
In addition ULTIMATE PROTECTION provides Premium Roadside Assistance for matters such as:
- Flat battery from any cause
- Out of fuel – up to 10 litres of fuel supplied
- Keys lost or locked in the car
- Changing a punctured tyre
- Extension of emergency transportation or accommodation costs protection to include matters shown above
Glass, Lights, Wheels, Tyres and Lower Body Damage
This package protects you with an excess on the following items, which do not form a part of our standard Liability Limitation (insurance) packages. The excess reverts to whatever Excess you have in your chosen Protection Package, absorbing the risks within the Excess applicable to the Protection Package you have chosen.
If you do not include this cover, the excess in your chosen package will increase by $2,500.
This package covers:
- Damage caused to body panels, tyres, wheels, suspension, exhaust system or chassis of the vehicle, resulting from tyre punctures; hitting low lying obstructions such as kerbs or gutters and garden walls, other than as a result of a collision with another motor vehicle, which is already covered in the relevant Insurance Protection package you have chosen.
- Damage to glass or plastic components such as front and rear screens; door windows; headlights; taillights; turning indicators; external or internal mirrors other than a result of a collision with another vehicle or with any object with a height above the bottom level of either the front or rear screens.
In order to have this protection, the Renter must either select Glass, Lights, Wheels, Tyres and Lower Body Damage or select MAXISAFE or ULTIMATE PROTECTION as their Liability Limitation (insurance) package.
Roadside Assistance
This is a “best endeavours” service potentially providing 24 hour roadside service in the event of mechanical breakdown of our Rental Vehicle (this facility may be provided by our own staff or by contracted agencies). There may well be instances where the Vehicle cannot be repaired “at roadside” because of the nature of the fault, or the non-availability of components or spare parts, or indeed the availability of appropriate personnel. This service is provided free to our customers where the mechanical fault is not because of the actions or inactions of the driver and will include necessary towing of the vehicle and provides reasonable financial assistance to the Renter for repatriating the rental party to their accommodation, or providing up to $200.00 for temporary overnight accommodation.
Roadside Assistance service is only available within Permitted Usage Zones.
Roadside Assistance is restricted in Permitted Usage Zones outside of the Greater Gold Coast area, temporary replacement vehicles will not be provided when the required service is outside of the Greater Gold Coast area.
Premium Roadside Assistance
This is also a “best endeavours” service potentially providing 24 hour roadside service in the event of assistance being required as a result of failure of the Driver.
This service embraces our Roadside Assistance package but widens the cover to include the following items:
- Flat battery from any cause
- Out of fuel – up to 10 litres of fuel supplied
- Keys lost or locked in the car
- Changing a punctured tyre
In order to have this protection, the Renter must either select Premium Roadside Assistance or select our ULTIMATE PROTECTION as their Liability Limitation (insurance) package.
Insurance Exclusions (what we don't cover)
Matters that are universally excluded from motor vehicle insurance policies:
- Driving in contravention of drug, medication or alcohol laws
- Vehicle stolen whilst the vehicle was unlocked or keys were not kept secure
- Premeditated dangerous acts such as “burn outs”; “running a red light”; excessive speed; attempted negotiation of flooded causeways, roads, bridges or streams
- Damage caused deliberately or recklessly by any occupant of the vehicle
- Damage caused by the use of the incorrect grade or type of fuel
- Abandonment of the vehicle; excessive number of passengers
- Attempted negotiation of space narrower than 60cms wider than the vehicle or lower than the roof line of the vehicle
- Lawful seizure, war, riots strikes or civil commotion, carrying dangerous goods
Matters that are specific to our Rental Car arrangements:
- Vehicle being driven by other than an authorised driver
- Vehicle being driven outside of any authorised Usage Zone
- Vehicle being driven after the documented rental return date and time
- Vehicle being driven on unsealed roads, other than roads under repair or private driveways to accommodation locations
- Damage caused by the vehicle being driven at speeds that are excessive considering the road surface quality.
- Damage caused to body panels, tyres, wheels, suspension, exhaust system or chassis of the vehicle, resulting from hitting low lying obstructions such as kerbs or gutters and garden walls, other than as a result of a collision with another motor vehicle (excluded unless you accept a protection package which includes Glass, Lights, Wheels, Tyres and Lower Body Damage Protection).
Fair Wear and Tear
Fair Wear and Tear recognises that some minor damage is inevitable and that the cost of rectification (if any) should be borne by the Owner, not the Renter.
Fair Wear and Tear exists for:
Body panels other than the roof, engine bonnet, boot lid or tailgate. The following are examples of Fair Wear and Tear.
- Isolated Dents, other than hail damage, which are under 20mm in diameter and do not involve damage to the paint surface.
- Scratches less than 20mm in length and 2mm in width which can be polished out.
- Cosmetic damage not affecting the functionality of keys, equipment or accessories.
Vehicle Interior scuffing or smears, which can reasonably be managed by vacuum or general cleaning; but any excessive dirt, sand or debris, or stains, pet hair, or unpleasant odours requiring intensive efforts for removal are not Fair Wear and Tear.
There is no Fair Wear and Tear for:
- Glass (front and rear screens, door windows; headlights; taillights; Turning indicators; external or internal mirrors).
- Tyres (other than damage caused by a collision with another vehicle or with property or structures).
- Wheels or Wheel trims, except for light scratches and scuffing up to 20mm in length.
